School Nurse Residency
Supporting the next generation of school nurses in New Jersey through mentorship, clinical training, and certification in partnership with Rutgers School of Nursing.
In June 2025, NJCCN launched a School Nurse Residency Program with Rutgers School of Nursing to help mitigate the shortage of School Nurses in the state. The program enrolled actively licensed registered nurses working as school nurses in NJ schools/districts with preference to those in “emergency certified” school nurse status. The school nurse residents complete 2,000 hours of clinical practice at their school/district with support of a preceptor/mentor and complete the School Nurse Certificate Program with Rutgers School of Nursing which leads to School Nurse Certification with the NJ Department of Education. The School Nurse Residency Program was partially funded through a New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development Growing Apprenticeships in Non-traditional Sectors (GAINS) grant.
