New Jersey is taking steps to address school nurse shortages through a new grant supporting 20 registered nurses in completing the School Nurse Certificate Program at Rutgers School of Nursing. Funded by the state’s GAINS initiative and implemented with the New Jersey Collaborating Center for Nursing, the 12-month residency covers tuition, certification fees, and provides mentorship while nurses gain hands-on school experience. The program aims to strengthen the school health workforce, as about 14% of New Jersey schools currently lack a certified school nurse. Graduates will be eligible for state certification and prepared to meet students’ growing health needs. Read full Rutgers School of Nursing report HERE.
