President Donald Trump has nominated Indiana Health Commissioner Jerome Adams to be the U.S. Surgeon General. Commissioner Adams identified an epidemic of HIV and Hepatitis C from the use of contaminated syringes related to opioid use. He worked with then-Governor Mike Pence to authorize legal needle exchange facilities.
